it’s done! it’s done! it’s done! well, almost anyway.

our bathroom is sooooooo close to being done. honestly, you’d think we did a major overhaul with how much time i’ve put into it in the last two weeks, but all we did was paint. it’s all my fault, because i chose a venetian plaster paint treatment (behr roman bath reduced to 70% to lighten it up a bit). i love the visual texture that the mottled venetian plaster gives, but the finish is super smooth, so painting over it won’t be a scary experience. it’s just that it took

but now it’s done. ish. and i couldn’t wait to share with you some of my faves.

oh what a difference a little color makes! before, our bathroom was a study in tan: sort of a cross between blah and cardboard. you couldn’t appreciate our gorgeously tiled bathtub and floor because everything was the same color.

now the travertine tile shines like it should against the pale aqua walls. the crisp white linens and brushed nickel round out the scene. plus there are the beautiful–if totally impractical–pedestal sinks in a dark espresso finish. did i mention that we inherited all this stuff? the people who owned the house had great taste. it just didn’t translate to the walls.

like the pile of paint supplies in the corner there? that’s because i’m not done with the ceiling. i know, i know, you’re supposed to paint the ceiling first, but i’ve never been a big rule-follower, and we felt like doing the walls first. still, it’s ever-so-much better than it was.

boring much? not anymore!

some fresh paint on the grungy looking baseboards, which had been primed but never painted–and therefore had a urine-colored tinge to them, something i just cannot tolerate (around the toilet, especially!)–and we improved the whole look of the bathroom. we even took the time to re-hang the medicine cabinets at a more reasonable height, so i can now wash my face without hitting my head. nice, huh?

check out the vintique hook that i found ($4!) for hanging robes next to the shower. up next, once i finish the ceiling, i’m going to update the window treatment–that i slapped up in desperation when we were having our roof redone and i craved some privacy in the potty–from a cafe curtain into a sleek roman shade. i’ll keep ya posted!
