i’m the type of girl…

…who stops her car to help a turtle cross a little faster.

…who used to rescue birds when they would slam into our big glass window, put them in a cardboard box (usually with some cheerios, ’cause i was 9), and then sit on the roof with them until they flew off. we had cats, so leaving them unsupervised seemed like a bad idea.

…who was always looking up at my mom with big sad eyes asking, “can we keep ‘im?”

…who was the vice-president of the spider club in fourth grade. we caught spiders at recess and tried to identify them. don’t worry, we always released them back into the wild before the bell rang. yeah, i was suuuuper popular.

…who once called animal control to help free a nest of birds from our dryer vent. they turned out to be starlings, but the intention was good.

…who can almost always remember the names of dogs…but not their owner’s.

…who still likes aquariums, and is usually the only adult by the touch tank without an actual child.

…who came home with a dog name molly who had been abandoned by her owners. nine years later, and it is still one of the best choices i’ve ever made.

…who will always have “found” dogs, rescued dogs, and will only get pets from a shelter and never from a breeder. unless i can convince my husband about getting a pocket pig, of course.
