it’s tomorrow!

hey….how did that happen? the first half of february flew by and tomorrow is valentine’s day. if you’re like me, you’ve had just oodles of time to put into finding the perfect gift, wrapping it up, and sealing it with a kiss. if, however, you’ve had family in your house, an out of town trip, and tomorrow has snuck up on you, then join me in last minute preparations.

sweets for your sweet? how bout these chocolate covered pretzels from love from the oven? grab a bag of gluten free ones for your gluten-free sweetie, or just make the samoa inspired ones for yourself. i know i will!

got a little extra time and supplies? {maybe a boss who isn’t looking that closely?} how about this nerdy embroidered fabulousness from prudent baby? there’s a great tutorial, so even if you’ve never crossed a stitch in your life, you’re going to be okay. i’m thinking about it.

not a lot of time? how about some easy printables? grab a pack of matches, fire up the printer, and stack these bad boys in the bathroom. these lovelies are from camille styles. found via spoonful of sugar on pinterest.

and don’t forget about my printables, which you can easily re-size for cards, tags, or whatever crazy creativeness you come up with. find the high-res images on my flickr page and more ideas for v-day on my pinterest page.

or maybe you want to redefine v-day for yourself. go for it. it’s all good.

free faux letterpress valentine’s printables

are you getting ready for v-day? {no? need a little push in that direction?} how about these adorable free faux-letterpress printables? use them for cards, use them for tags, use them for whatever your heart desires*. personally, i’ll be using them for gift tags, but if you come up with any cute ways to use them, please share! i love to see what you create! {just click on the image for a direct link to the large, downloadable images}

a big heart-y thanks to the amazing graphics fairy, karen, who provided the lovely images. i merely altered them and added the text, letterpress style. if you don’t know karen, you should get over to her blog for some sweet graphics, instant art, and lovely printables for your artwork. seriously, check her out. another thanks to heather at dollar store crafts, who worked some photoshop magic to create some of the steampunk brushes i used above. she inspired me to figure out how to make my very own! {the sewing machine, scooter, compass, and heart are my own, the air balloon and fan are hers. thanks heather!}

*the small print: i’ve created these for your personal use. please don’t sell these in any form, it’s just bad karma. for the details on what kind of license i’ve used for these, click here.

happy vd!

inspired by the olympics (with a touch of jerry maguire) to do a slightly unusual card!  i drew the skier myself, created my own version of the olympic rings, and added a little text with rub-ons.  just for you.

queen of hearts

when i was little, i played the queen of hearts in alice of wonderland.  i hung onto the skirt i wore as part of my costume forever–i still remember it: red check gingham happiness.

when i saw these red beads, they just struck a chord.  they are a gorgeous bright red at the center with delicate swirls spinning out to a clear finish.  you have to see them to believe them.

i added gunmetal, bali sterling silver, and black matte czech glass beads to make them shine.

available at my etsy store for $20 USD.  perfect for your queen of hearts!

i’m still donating $5 for every item sold to the aid organization of your choice to help the victims of the haiti earthquakes.  i know it’s out of the media for the most part, but as someone who went to assist with rebuilding in mississippi a year after katrina, i can tell you the work has just begun.  you cannot believe how much devastation there can be.  let’s keep doing what we can.
